Over the past seven (7) years following the extensive damage and loss of life from Hurricane Katrina, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), other Federal agencies, the State of Louisiana and its citizens have invested millions of dollars in Hazard Mitigation measures to protect individuals and property from the effects of future hazards and disasters. This Loss Avoidance Study (LAS) provides hard data validating the effectiveness of elevating a structure above the base flood elevation (BFE) or otherwise known as the one-percent annual chance flood, for 62 properties in St. Tammany Parish, LA.
