National Situation Update: Sunday, March 7, 2010

Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED).

Significant National Weather

West:
A cold front will produce rain and snow across the Pacific Northwest.  An upper-level low will produce precipitation from Southern California across the Southwest.  Rainfall totals from San Diego into Arizona could be as much as one inch. The Great Basin and the Rockies will have scattered snow showers.  On Monday, the Southwest storm will continue to produce rain and snow in the Four Corners states.
Midwest:
A low pressure system will produce scattered precipitation from the Central Plains across the mid Mississippi River Valley to the Ohio Valley.  An area of freezing rain is possible to the north of the low’s center.  The remainder of the region will be dry.
South:
Under high pressure most of the region will be dry and cool.  However, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will produce showers and thunderstorms across Texas and Oklahoma.  Low relative humidity will produce critical fire weather during the afternoon and evening hours in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina.
Northeast:
Under high pressure generally dry weather will continue for the next several days except for occasional snow showers in northern New York and northern New England. (NOAA’s National Weather Service, Hydro Meteorological Prediction Center, and various media sources)
