National Weather Forecast

Northeast
Showers are forecast for northern New England with scattered thunderstorms developing over the eastern Great Lakes. An approaching cold front will bring more widespread thunderstorms on Sunday.
Midwest
A cold front continuing to move southward and eastward across the region will bring thunderstorms across the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, Missouri and Kansas. High temperatures will range from the 60s in the northern Great Lakes to 80s in the Ohio Valley, Missouri and the Plains; southern Kansas may reach the lower 90s.
South
A few thunderstorms are possible across the Texas Panhandle, northern Oklahoma and northern Arkansas. The immediate southeast and northern Gulf Coasts will see scattered thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. Thunderstorms may be more widespread over southern Florida. High temperatures will range from the low to mid-90s across much of the southeast to near or over 100 across much of Oklahoma and Texas.
West
By Sunday the Northwest will see extreme heat. Sunday through Wednesday, the California to Washington corridor will see temperatures 5-25 degrees above average while areas from the Rockies eastward will see temperatures 5-20 degrees below average. Portland, Oregon will see temperatures in the low 90s today and may see 100 degrees by Tuesday. By Tuesday record high temperatures are possible west of the Cascades. Thunderstorms will increase from the Rockies into the high Plains with a few dry thunderstorms possible as far west as the Sierra and Cascades. Tropical Weather Outlook

Atlantic
Tropical Cyclone formation is not expected during the next 48 hours.

Eastern Pacific
Tropical Cyclone formation is not expected during the next 48 hours.

Central Pacific
No tropical cyclones are expected through Saturday morning.

Western Pacific

Earthquake Activity

On July 25, 2009 at 9:43 p.m. EDT, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred 246 miles east-southeast from Anchorage, AK at a depth of 7.9 miles. There were no reports of injury or damage and no tsunami was generated.(USGS, Earthquake Hazards Program)
