Significant National Weather

Midwest
Thunderstorms are forecast from parts of the Dakotas, Nebraska and Kansas to the Mid-Mississippi and Lower Ohio Valleys. Some storms will be severe with locally heavy rainfall.

South
Showers and thunderstorms are likely from Oklahoma, northern Texas and Arkansas to the Carolinas and Georgia. Florida will continue to see widely scattered thunderstorms each day.

Northeast
Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are predicted this weekend across the Northeast.

West 
A chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast this weekend for parts of Washington, Oregon and northern California over to Montana, Wyoming and Colorado. (National Weather Service, Various Media Sources)

Severe Storms and Flooding Recovery – Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) Area

According to the National Weather Service, rain totals from June 10 - June 11, 2009 in north central Texas varied from 3.6 inches at the DFW Airport to 8 inches in parts of Dallas and near the Trinity River. The moderate flooding on the Trinity River is expected to crest at 38 feet overnight and is predicted to quickly recede below flood stage by Saturday afternoon.

The City of Dallas brought in five portable pumps overnight, June 12, to compensate for the failed Delta pump station.  Ponding on streets has been receding throughout the day. A total of 43,000 customers continue to experience power outages in the Dallas Metroplex, down from a peak of 260,000 customers.

The City of Dallas is keeping two shelters open. The American Red Cross is maintaining a presence and distributing water. Residents without power are using the shelters as cooling stations. Temperatures in the DFW Metroplex were 95-98 degrees on Friday. (Region VI)

Sarasota County, FL, Myakka State Park Fire - The fire has burned 410 acres. There are no injuries or evacuations. The State EOC maintains a Level III (Normal Operations) monitoring the situation. The Sarasota Fire Dept. is on scene along with DeSoto County Fire Dept. and Florida Division of Forestry. (Region IV)
