National Weather Forecast

Northeast
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible over southern Virginia, spreading to the New England coast on Friday. Moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated along the track of the storm with widespread amounts of one to two inches. Localized flooding is possible.
South
Widespread showers and thunderstorm activity is forecast east of the Mississippi River. Some of the thunderstorms could be locally heavy producing torrential downpours, small hail, and brief gusty winds.
West
Today and Friday, scattered showers and a threat of severe storms with gusty winds and large hail are possible across California, most of Oregon, southern Idaho, northern Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, northern Utah, and northern Colorado.
Midwest

Wildfire Update

National Fire Activity as of Wednesday, June 3, 2009:

Initial attack activity:  Light (115 new fires)
New large fires: 2
Large fires contained: 0
Uncontained large fires: 2
States affected: Alaska, Arizona and New Mexico

Broken Snowshoe Fire near McGrath, AK:
25,345 acres have burned with 38% containment.  Transfer to a Type 3 command structure is planned for the end of the operational period on June 4. There have been no requests for Federal assistance. Disaster Declaration Activity

On June 3, 2009, the President signed a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Alabama ( FEMA-1842-DR) as a result of Severe Storms, Tornados, Flooding, and Straight line Winds occurring May 6-8, 2009. The Declaration provides Public Assistance for 4 counties and Hazard Mitigation statewide.

The Governor of Illinois requested a Major Disaster Declaration as a result of Severe Storms and Flooding beginning on May 8, 2009. The Governor is specifically requesting Individual Assistance for five counties, Public Assistance for six counties, and Hazard Mitigation statewide. (FEMA HQ)
