A frontal system moving through the Midwest has produced a severe weather outbreak. The National Weather Services Severe Storm Center issued several Tornado Watches and had preliminary reports of over 50 tornado touchdowns.
Region VII is reporting a tornado has destroyed the Little Sioux Scout Ranch in Turin (Monona County) east central Iowa. The community is located 50 miles North of Omaha, NE.
Over one hundred scouts and adult leaders were at the camp and unconfirmed reports indicate there were 4 fatalities and 30 to 40 injuries. Local authorities are responding. Region VII RRCC reports that at this time, related to this event, there are no requests from the state for federal assistance.
In Kansas there are reports of damage to Kansas State University in Riley county from a tornado. The City of Chapman in Dickinson county is reported to be 70-80% destroyed with up to 100 people injured. A shelter has been opened in nearby Abilene. Confirmed fatalities include one in Chapman (Dickinson county) and one in City of Soldier (Jackson county). No request for federal assistance. West:
A cold upper-air system will produce precipitation in Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and spreading eastward into the Dakotas later in the day as the system moves toward the northern Plains. Snow is forecast for the higher elevations. High temperatures will range from the 40s in Wyoming to 100 or better in the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts.
Midwest:
Thunderstorms are again forecast along the front from Oklahoma to the Great Lakes. These storms will produce damaging winds, hail and even tornadoes. Widespread precipitation will fall over presently flooded areas of the upper Midwest and Great plains. Heavy rain is forecast - some areas may see more than 3 inches.
Isolated thunderstorms may also develop over the mid-Ohio Valley and Kentucky. High temperatures will range from the below average 50s in the western Dakotas to above average 90 in the Ohio Valley.
South:
Showers with isolated afternoon thunderstorms are forecast for much of the Region. Most of the thunderstorm activity will be in Florida, south Georgia and southeast Alabama. Highs in the Region are expected to be in the 80s and 90s with triple-digit temperatures in West Texas.
Northeast:
High pressure will result in dry conditions over most of the Region. There may be isolated thunderstorm activity in southwest Virginia and southern West Virginia. Temperatures will range from near 70 in northern Maine to near 90 in Virginia. (NWS, Media Sources)

The fire is 0% contained and there is no estimated date for full containment.
FMAG-2772-CA was issued for the Martin Fire near Santa Cruz, California. The fire has burned more than 300 acres and there have been 500 mandatory and 1000 voluntary evacuations. Two businesses are threatened along with major transmission lines and the Bonny Doon Water Shed and Bonny Doon Ecological Reserve. There is no estimated date for full containment. (FEMA HQ)
