National Situation Update: Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED).

National Weather

West:
Low pressure moves through the northern Rockies on November 27, 2007 producing areas of moderate to heavy snow across Montana, western Wyoming, Idaho, northern Nevada and northern Utah.
Chilly air will enter the intermountain West behind the snowstorm on November 28, 2007 with highs mainly in the teens and 20s with a few valley locations climbing into the 30s.
The next storm makes a run at the Northwest coast on November 28, 2007 with more rain and snow.

Midwest:
An accumulation of 4 to 8 inches of snow in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan are possible as an upper level low system moves through the region on November 27, 2007.
Low pressure moves rapidly from Minnesota through Michigan toward New York state providing more snow showers to the Great Lakes and upper Midwest with a few light rain showers possible from southern Michigan southwest to Missouri on November 27, 2007.

South:
The sole threat of precipitation on November 27, 2007 is over southern Florida where some isolated thunderstorms are possible along a southward moving cold front.

Northeast:
An upper level disturbance moves into northern New England on November 27, 2007 producing mainly light snow showers. Some areas could pick up an inch or two of snow.

Corral Fire Incident, Malibu, CA

As of 9:00 p.m. EST, November 26, 2007, the Corral Fire had burned over 4,901 acres and is 95 percent contained.  Full containment is anticipated by November 28, 2007.  There have been a total of 80 structures destroyed, which includes 53 residences and 27 outbuildings. At the incident's peak, 10,000 to 14,000 people were evacuated.  The Agoura shelter remains open and is adequately supplied (CalFire Website)

Update on OJO Peak Fire, Mountainair, NM

The number of firefighters working on the Ojo Peak Fire burning in the Manzano Mountains has been reduced from 138 people to 30.  The blaze is 60% contained with 6,969 acres burned.  The fire has destroyed three homes and some outbuildings.  The blaze is still burning in a wilderness area that's too dangerous to send firefighters.(Media sources)

FEMA Alert Notification

FEMA Region III is issuing an alert in response to events associated with the Annapolis (MD) Conference on November 27, 2007.  Up to 200 foreign dignitaries from 35 countries will attend. Regional personnel will establish an Emergency Response Team - Advanced Element and are prepared to support a potential deployment within two (2) hours of notification.
