Several extensive Arctic outbreaks are forecast to move from the northern Plains and upper Mississippi Valley southward and eastward over much of the central and eastern part of the Nation Jan 29 through Feb 5.
Periods of locally heavy lake effect snow squalls are likely downwind from the lee shores of all the Great Lakes from Jan 29 through Feb 5, aided by unusually large expanses of open water for this late in the winter, due to prior unseasonably mild weather.
A brief period of dry, downslope winds may develop, that may increase the wildfire danger in southern California Jan 31 - Feb 1.
Some of the drought areas in the interior Southwest, Plains, and northeast Florida may see some further relief, but little or no relief is expected for the growing dry area in southern California and western Arizona. (NOAA/National Weather Service, Climate Prediction Center)
