Heavy Snow Warnings in the Midwest
Midwest:
Winter Storm Warnings have been posted for large portions of the Midwest. Heavy snowfall (4-12 inches) will accumulate on Sunday in the area from the Texas Panhandle to central Kansas and Iowa. Lighter snowfall (1-3 inches) is expected in other parts of the region.
The fast moving storm is expected to move northward to the Great Lakes area by Sunday night.
The area near the Ohio River on the edge of the winter storm may see some icy conditions.
Electric utility crews continue their efforts to restore power to several thousand customers impacted by earlier winter storms.
Northeast:
Light snow (1-3 inches) and some ice are forecast for the area extending from western New York State to Virginia. Washington DC may see up to 1 inch of light snow.
New England will have cold and dry weather.
South:
The winter storm bringing snow to the Midwest will bring heavy rainfall to the lower Mississippi and Tennessee River Valleys Sunday.
Sleet and freezing rain are possible in southwestern Virginia and North Carolina.
West:
Light snow is forecast for the Rocky Mountain area extending from Montana to Arizona.
Near freezing temperatures in California may cause additional damage to agricultural crops. Strong Santa Ana winds will hit Southern California with wind gusts near 60 miles per hour. (NWS, Media Sources)
Midwest Winter Storm Recovery Update
Oklahoma
- OK State EOC remains activated due to winter weather conditions that continue to impact the state.
- Joint preliminary damage assessment teams are surveying damage in the affected areas of Delaware, McIntosh, Muskogee, and Pittsburg counties. The teams include county and city officials as well as representatives of OEM and FEMA.
- During the past week, more than 540,000 one-liter bottles of drinking water have been distributed to communities impacted by the storm. Bottled water continues to arrive at staging locations in McAlester, Muskogee, Jay, Miami, and Pryor.
- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues to deliver generators for water treatment plants and plants to communities in need.
- As of 11:00 a.m. CST January 20, OEM reported approximately 39,000 customers without power
(down from previous day's total of 64,400).
- Oklahoma National Guard is providing 112 Guard members to provide generators and other equipment for winter storm recovery support to local authorities. (Oklahoma Office of Emergency Management, National Guard Bureau)
Missouri
- State Emergency Operations Center is activated from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm CST each day.
- As of January 20, 2007, 56 shelters were open in the state with a total estimated population of approximately 1,800 people.
- State EM Duty Officer indicates approximately 70,000 customers statewide without power as a result of winter storm. (as of 4:00 a.m. CST January 21)
- Missouri National Guard is providing 457 Guard members for power generation support at shelters and public water and sewage facilities throughout the state. Also providing support for emergency debris clearance and health and welfare checks among at-risk populations. (Missouri Emergency Management Agency, National Guard Bureau)

Preliminary Damage Assessments
- Joint PDAs for Clatsop County in Oregon were delayed by adverse weather conditions. It has been rescheduled for week of January 22, 2007.
- PDAs for DR-1676-MO are scheduled for the week of January 22, 2007
- IA and PA PDAs in four counties in Oklahoma were scheduled to begin January 19, 2007.
- PA PDAs for 2 counties in New Mexico that began on January 15, 2007, will continue when weather permits.
- Category A&B PDAs for 18 counties in Illinois EM-3269 begin January 22, 2007.
