Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED).

Pacific Storm Systems Moves Into The Northwest

West:
The first in a series of Pacific storm systems moves into the Northwest with rain, freezing rain and snow.  Warm air moving in with the system should keep snow levels high into the weekend. Cold air trapped east of the Cascade Mountains could allow for a period of freezing rain in the valleys of central Oregon and central Washington in the morning.  The first batch of rainy and wintry conditions will last through Saturday from northern California to Washington.

Hawaii is slogging through a powerful storm system that is bringing round after round of heavy rain and pounding surf. This storm system will be very slow to move through the islands. This will result in flooding rain, gusty winds, and more surf through Friday.

Northeast:
Accumulating snow of 1 to 4 inches - should occur above 1,500 feet and away from any big cities. The storm system will move off the Northeast coast in the morning taking the rain and wet snow with it.
Blustery and chilly conditions move in behind the low tonight and Friday with the lake-effect machine kicking into high gear.

Midwest:
The lake-effect machine roars to life off Lake Superior and Lake Michigan and is in full swing Thursday. Sections of northern Michigan near Marquette, Houghton and the Keweenaw Peninsula could pick up a foot of snow by the evening with additional accumulations possible through Friday.

South:
A cold front pushes off the Southeast coast ushering in cool air mass.  The front should drift south through Florida with scattered showers in the afternoon. Below average temperatures should dominate the entire region into the weekend with highs in the 50s and 60s north and in the 70s to lower 80s south.    (National Weather Service, media sources)
