Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED).

Weather Across the Nation

West: The wet weather pattern remains firmly in place over the Pacific Northwest. Showers and mountain snows are forecast for Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California and Nevada Snow levels will range from 2000 feet along the border to 6000 feet in northern California. Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico and most of Colorado should also remain dry.

Midwest: Dry, mild weather will dominate the Midwest and Great Plains today. The only chance of showers will be in extreme northern Michigan from a weak frontal system.

South: High pressure will produce sunshine and unseasonable warmth over most of the South with only a chance of isolated showers in south Florida, parts of south Texas and the Texas Gulf Coast.

Northeast: Gusty winds and cooler weather will blanket the Northeast today following Sunday's storm system. The only precipitation in the forecast is isolated showers or snow flurries in the Adirondacks of New York and northern New England.

Tornado Damage in Indiana and Kentucky

At approximately 2:00 am local time Sunday Nov 6, severe storms and tornadoes crossed southwestern Indiana and northern Kentucky causing fatalities and injuries as well as damage to homes and knocking out power to thousands.

Kentucky: No deaths were reported in Kentucky, however; six injuries were reported. Electricity was knocked out in parts of 14 counties. Homes and businesses were damaged in and around Munfordville in Hart County Thirty-five National Guard personnel are stationed at eight security check points in Munfordville, (Hart Co). Request for federal assistance: Unknown at this time.

Indiana: Initial reports indicate that at least 20 people have been killed and 200 injured with 75 mobile homes destroyed and an additional 100 sustaining damage. Up to 132,000 customers were without power at one point, most have already been restored but it is expected to take an additional 24-36 hours to restore all electrical service. There are 145 soldiers on State Active Duty for checkpoint manning, security, and debris removal in Evansville Indiana. Recovery of Electric Service in Florida

Florida power and Light (FPL) has provided the following power restoration data, and full restoration dates, weather permitting, of the remaining 181,900 outages (reduced from 270,500 November 5), as of 9:00 pm EST November 6:

Tropical Activity

There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, or Eastern Pacific Ocean.

In the Western Pacific ocean the earlier Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert (TCFA) has developed into Tropical Depression 23W centered near 10.7N 137.9E about 520 Southwest of Guam. The current warning has the system moving to the northwest and then west. Earthquake Activity

In the past 24 hours there have been 9 minor earthquakes in Alaska, 6 in California and 1 in the Mt. St. Helens area of Washington.
