Colorado Severe Storms, Flooding, Landslides, and Mudslides (DR-4145)
Spotlight: FEMA Corps’ Help Educate Students about Mitigation
Five FEMA Corps members assigned to DR-4145-CO developed a rap song, a board game and an infomercial to teach 18- to 24-year-olds about Hazard Mitigation. The infomercial encourages homeowners to buy flood and earthquake insurance; the board game emphasizes the importance of disaster preparations, including having a go-kit and an evacuation plan. The rap song talks about building improvements to reduce the risk of damage in future events.
“It was a pleasure to have the enthusiasm, fresh eyes and innovative thoughts to develop products for outreach to high school and college-age students,” said Mike Hillenburg, Hazard Mitigation Assistance Branch Chief for Region VIII.
