FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The restoration of businesses impacted by the tornadoes, severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding Feb. 29-March 3 is essential to the Commonwealth’s recovery. “History has proven the sooner local businesses recover following a disaster, the faster the community begins recovering,” said John Heltzel, director of Kentucky Emergency Management. “Which is why having an emergency, or disaster, operations plan is crucial.”

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program provides funding to states, local governments and certain private nonprofits to reduce the loss of life and property due to natural disasters. Mitigation was approved as part of the presidential disaster declaration of March 6. All the counties in the Commonwealth are eligible for the program. The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program is funded by FEMA and administered by the Commonwealth.

FRANKFORT, Ky. --The Commonwealth of Kentucky and The Federal Emergency Management Agency announce the closure of the Disaster Recovery Centers for Morgan County in West Liberty and Hazel Green for Wolfe County on Wednesday, April 11 at 6 p.m. The recovery center in West Liberty will re-open as an SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center in the same location at 9 a.m., Thursday, April 12, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- FEMA grants are helping thousands of Kentucky families recover from the recent tornadoes, but you may have neighbors, friends or family members who have not registered for federal disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Your neighbors or friends may have misunderstandings about registration that may have kept them from getting all the recovery help they need.

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Disaster recovery officials urge recipients of federal grants to use the money wisely and to keep receipts and other documentation for at least three years as proof the funds were spent as intended. Upon releasing the funds by direct deposit or check, the Federal Emergency Management Agency sent every recipient a letter providing important information about the grant and outlining how the money can be spent.
