SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Puerto Rico disaster survivors who have not yet registered for federal disaster assistance have only 8 more days to apply. December 19, 2011, is the last day to apply for most disaster assistance programs of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), according to Government of Puerto Rico and federal officials.

SAN JUAN, PR -- Survivors affected by Tropical Storm María living in the municipalities of Juana Díaz, Naguabo and Yabucoa may qualify for individual disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Government of Puerto Rico. “We want to ensure that any eligible survivor receives the disaster assistance necessary to start recovering”, said Justo Hernández, FEMA’s Federal Coordinating Officer. “If you have not applied yet, do it quickly”.

Partnering with State and Municipal governments, FEMA will provide survivors information on disaster assistance available, low interest federal disaster loans, disaster crisis counseling, voluntary agency disaster assistance and preventive measures to mitigate future damages to property and life.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and ordered federal aid to supplement commonwealth and local recovery efforts in the area affected by Tropical Storm María during the period of September 8-14, 2011. The President's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in the municipalities of Juana Díaz, Naguabo, and Yabucoa.
