HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Property owners rebuilding or making repairs to their flood-damage properties have access to a number of resources - including financial -- that can help them reduce, or prevent, future disaster loss. In some areas, property owners will be required by local ordinance to meet certain requirements when making repairs or rebuilding. To help cover the costs of meeting those requirements, the National Flood Insurance Program includes Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) coverage for all new and renewed standard flood insurance policies.

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The floodwaters may have receded months ago, but mold and mildew - dormant during the winter months -- may reappear in water-damaged homes as the weather warms. Mold only grows in warm, wet conditions and may have been inactive and unnoticed during the winter months. It can lurk throughout a home, from the attic to the basement and crawl spaces.

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Of the more than $200 million the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is expected to reimburse the commonwealth for infrastructure damage from Irene and Lee, more than $30 million of that will be used to rebuild infrastructure to a higher standard. The work is known as mitigation - an effort to break the cycle of damage and repair and reduce repetitive losses.

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Federal assistance may be available to help Pennsylvania communities rebuild infrastructure to higher, more disaster-resistant standards and commonwealth officials are encouraging local governments to take advantage of that funding. The assistance to communities is part of the aid that became available following Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.
