WESTFIELD, Mass -- Flooding can happen anytime in Massachusetts, especially during hurricane season, from June 1 to December 1. Individuals and business owners in the western part of the Commonwealth can attest to this as they continue to clean up after Tropical Storm Irene that struck in late August.  Hurricanes, tropical storms and winter coastal storms, known as “Nor'easters”, have caused hundreds of millions of dollars in property damage in the state, much of it from flooding.

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Beginning Wednesday, October 26, the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Developers Finance Building, 430 Main Street in Williamstown will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. “A review of activity at the DRC indicates that individuals wanting to take advantage of the services provided there will be able to continue to do so during the new time periods,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Mark H. Landry with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Even as the Wednesday, November 2, 2011 registration deadline approaches, some individuals in Berkshire and Franklin counties with losses and damage in the wake of Tropical Storm Irene from August 27 to 29 have yet to register for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Disaster assistance programs may provide grants for damage and losses not covered by insurance. That is why insured individuals in Berkshire and Franklin counties affected by Tropical Storm Irene from August 27-29 are urged by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to apply for assistance.

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- On Tuesday, October 25, Williamstown Public Access Channel 17 WilliNet will provide area residents with an opportunity to get answers to their questions about disaster assistance. During the one-half hour live broadcast beginning at 7 p.m., individuals may call 413-458-0900 and speak with the participants on-air.

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Flooding is a significant threat throughout Massachusetts, as demonstrated by recent floods throughout western Massachusetts following Tropical Storm Irene in August and by the March 2010 flooding throughout eastern Massachusetts. As many Massachusetts flood survivors discovered, homeowners insurance does not cover all flood events.
