WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) are now open in five locations in Berkshire and Franklin counties to help those whose homes or businesses were affected by Tropical Storm Irene. The centers are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, until further notice.

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- More than $1.3 million in federal assistance has been approved to help individuals with disaster expenses just two weeks after President Obama declared a federal disaster for Tropical Storm Irene that struck Massachusetts August 27-29. To date, 708 people from Berkshire and Franklin counties have registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and FEMA-contracted inspectors have completed 435 inspections.

Westfield, Mass. -- Inspectors from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are contacting disaster applicants in Berkshire and Franklin counties whose primary home or rental residence had losses caused by Tropical Storm Irene during the August 27-29 period. Legitimate FEMA inspectors won't ask for personal information, such as a Social Security number, or request payment for the services they provide.
