WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Flooding is a significant threat throughout Massachusetts, as demonstrated by recent floods throughout western Massachusetts following Tropical Storm Irene in August and by the March 2010 flooding throughout eastern Massachusetts. As many Massachusetts flood survivors discovered, homeowners insurance does not cover all flood events.

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- As of October 20, 2011, five more Massachusetts counties (Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Norfolk and Plymouth) are eligible to receive Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) funding for response and recovery efforts due to damage and losses caused by Tropical Storm Irene from August 27 to 29. Nine counties are now eligible for PA. Four counties – Berkshire, Franklin, Hamden and Hampton – are part of the original presidential disaster declaration on September 3, 2011, that included Public Assistance for the Commonwealth.

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The window is quickly closing for residents of Berkshire and Franklin counties to register for disaster help. An online visit or a single phone call can qualify an individual head of household or business owner for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

WESTFIELD, Mass -- As of 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16, more than $3 million in federal assistance has been approved to help individuals with disaster expenses for damage and losses caused by Tropical Storm Irene in Berkshire and Franklin counties from August 27 to 29. To date, 1159 people from Berkshire and Franklin counties have registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and FEMA-contracted inspectors have completed 861 inspections. The federal assistance includes $2,784,908 in housing aid to help homeowners and renters:

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Following Tropical Storm Irene’s destructive path through western Massachusetts in late August, officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) want to inform all recovering municipalities and nonprofit organizations that there may be additional funding available to reduce or prevent future flood damage.
