WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Berkshire County Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Williamstown will close permanently at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, disaster officials announced today. Applicants requiring further assistance may still call the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) toll-free helpline as well as access information via the Internet and the use of mobile devices.

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- For the past two months, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) have been reminding homeowners, renters and business owners in Berkshire and Franklin counties that the deadline to register for federal disaster assistance for Tropical Storm Irene damage and losses was quickly approaching. That day – Wednesday, November 2, 2011 - has arrived.  The FEMA registration lines and internet access pages will cease accepting applications as of 11:59 p.m.

WESTFIELD, Mass -- Flooding can happen anytime in Massachusetts, especially during hurricane season, from June 1 to December 1. Individuals and business owners in the western part of the Commonwealth can attest to this as they continue to clean up after Tropical Storm Irene that struck in late August.  Hurricanes, tropical storms and winter coastal storms, known as “Nor'easters”, have caused hundreds of millions of dollars in property damage in the state, much of it from flooding.

A simple phone call or online visit may qualify a household or business for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and other agencies.

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Beginning Wednesday, October 26, the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Developers Finance Building, 430 Main Street in Williamstown will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. “A review of activity at the DRC indicates that individuals wanting to take advantage of the services provided there will be able to continue to do so during the new time periods,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Mark H. Landry with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
