BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Recovery officials want to remind Vermonters who lost work as a result of Tropical Storm Irene, including those who are self-employed, to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance before the program’s deadline. Workers in the counties of Addison, Bennington, Caledonia, Chittenden, Orange, Rutland, Washington, Windham and Windsor must submit their disaster unemployment assistance applications by October 7.

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- “What can I spend the money for?” is a question being asked by many Vermonters who have received recovery grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  “The purpose of FEMA grants is to help Vermonters begin the recovery process during these very challenging times,” said Federal Coordinating Officer James N. Russo. “We want everyone to have the maximum possible flexibility within the rules to spend grants in the way that is most helpful to their recovery.”

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Federal and state officials announce that all fixed-site disaster recovery centers will now be open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Friday, October 7. In addition all centers will be closed Monday, Oct. 10, in observance of Columbus Day. It is not necessary for Vermonters affected by Tropical Storm Irene to visit a center in order to receive disaster assistance.  In fact, people with storm-related losses are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting a center.

BURLINGTON, Vt.  – With one month gone since Vermont suffered a major disaster in Tropical Storm Irene and another month left to register for aid, FEMA has approved more than $16 million in assistance to individuals and families.

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Federal and state officials announce the closing of six disaster recovery centers this next week, but assistance is still only a phone call away for Vermonters who were affected by Tropical Storm Irene flooding and they can can still apply for federal disaster assistance until Monday, Oct. 31st.

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Federal and state officials announce that all disaster recovery centers will be closed on Sundays beginning this weekend.  The centers will now be open Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, this does not affect the mobile disaster recovery center vehicle which is making short visits to several Vermont communities and will be open this Sunday in Bethel.
