ALBANY, N.Y. -- An additional state and federal Disaster Recovery Center will open on Friday, September 9 in Essex County to assist individuals, households and businesses that suffered damage from Hurricane Irene and the subsequent flooding, federal and state emergency management officials said. ALBANY, N.Y. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today it is expanding assistance to Orange and Schenectady Counties to repair or replace public facilities damaged by Hurricane Irene. Governmental entities, municipal authorities, school districts and some nonprofit organizations in the county are now eligible for all categories of Public Assistance. Philip Parr, federal coordinating officer, said the assistance was approved following a review of damage data gathered by federal and state disaster recovery officials.

SCHOHARIE COUNTY – Disaster survivors can now pick up water and ready-to-eat meals at five Point of Distribution (POD) locations in Schoharie County. The PODs are being operated by local and New York State officials with resource assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and volunteer relief groups.  Also, one Red Cross shelter is now open to serve survivors.
