ATLANTA, Ga. -- Two additional counties have been designated for disaster assistance to households and businesses as part of North Carolina's federal disaster declaration, according to officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The latest counties are Halifax and Lenoir. Counties previously designated are Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Dare, Hyde, Pamlico and Tyrrell.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A disaster recovery center has opened in Tyrrell County to help those with property damage or other setbacks caused by Hurricane Irene. The center will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week until further notice at Tyrrell Hall, 906 U.S. Highway 64, Columbia, N.C. 27925. Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, North Carolina Division of Emergency Management and other agencies will be at the center to explain assistance programs and help survivors apply for disaster aid.

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Community relations teams from the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management and Federal Emergency Management Agency are reaching out to survivors affected by Hurricane Irene.  Teams are in the designated counties, knocking on doors and attending meetings to share and gather information. The goal is twofold: to make sure that renters, homeowners and small business owners know about available disaster assistance programs, and to identify unmet needs.
