RALEIGH, N.C. -- Hurricane Irene survivors with questions about flood insurance claims have until Dec. 9, 2011 to call a toll-free hotline. The Hurricane Irene Flood Insurance Claims Hotline will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 3, and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, through Friday, Dec. 9. The hotline number is 855-336-2002.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Three months after Hurricane Irene struck North Carolina, survivors have received more than $67 million in state and federal disaster assistance. More than 35,000 survivors contacted FEMA for help or information regarding disaster assistance. Many people have sought housing assistance from FEMA because their primary home was damaged or destroyed. Other callers may have been interested in disaster unemployment assistance, crisis counseling or legal aid.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The National Flood Insurance Program announced on Tuesday that the deadline for policy holders to file proof of loss statements related to Hurricane Irene has been extended in North Carolina and 14 other states as well as the District of Columbia. The new deadline is January 23, 2012. The extension was granted because NFIP policyholders up and down the East Coast are encountering difficulties filing proofs of loss. A proof of loss is required before a policyholder can receive payment of the flood insurance claim.

Anyone who still feels overwhelmed by their Hurricane Irene experience should call for free crisis counseling services. The statewide toll-free number is 866-451-7760. Lines are open from 8 a.m. until midnight seven days a week. All calls are confidential.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Hurricane Irene survivors with questions about flood insurance claims have a few more days to call a toll-free hotline. The Hurricane Irene Flood Insurance Claims Hotline will cease operation at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23. The hotline number is 855-336-2002. After the hotline closes, National Flood Insurance Program policy holders should call their insurance agent or carrier if they have questions about their claim.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Hurricane Irene survivors have until 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, to visit SBA disaster centers in eastern North Carolina. After Friday, survivors can still get help by calling the SBA Disaster Customer Service Center toll-free number: 800-659-2955 or (TTY) 800-877-8339.  Help is also available by sending an email to disastercustomerservice@sba.gov or by going online at www.sba.gov.
