WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that federal aid has been made available for the state of West Virginia to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms and straight-line winds during the period of June 29 to July 1, 2012.
SAN JUAN, PR -- More than $83.9 million in grants for disaster aid has been approved to Puerto Rico to continue recovering from the heavy rains, flooding, landslides and mudslides left by Hurricane Irene, Government of Puerto Rico and federal officials announced today. SAN JUAN, PR -- The recovery operation lead by the Government of Puerto Rico and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has resulted in the disbursal of more than $26.1 million in disaster aid for Public Assistance (PA). As of today, 907 infrastructure projects have been approved for designated municipalities. "Local governments are working as fast as they can to fix their infrastructure and we want to ensure that they receive adequate support from our agency," said Justo Hernández, Federal Coordinating Officer.

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
