BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Federal government is working on a wide front to assist state and local agencies in Western New York to recover from the surprise October snowstorm, according to Federal Coordinating Officer Peter Martinasco of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Among the initiatives underway are:

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal aid has been made available to supplement state and local response efforts in the area struck by a lake effect snowstorm on October 12, 2006, and continuing.
