ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that another $800,000 in federal disaster aid has been approved for local governments and non-profits organizations in Cayuga, Oneida, Oswego and Lewis counties that responded to a series of severe lake-effect snow storms in late January.

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that the first $1 million in federal disaster aid, authorized by President George W. Bush in the wake of a series of record lake-effect snow storms, has been approved for local governments and non-profits organizations in Cayuga, Oneida, Oswego and Lewis counties.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- State and federal officials today announced that a series of briefings will be held next week, March 15-17, to educate government entities and non-profit organizations about the process of applying for federal reimbursement for costs incurred while responding to the record lake effect snowfall that blanketed central New York in late January.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
