CHICAGO, Ill. -- Eleven more counties have been added to the snow emergency declaration issued by President Clinton January 8 bringing the total to 45 Illinois counties now eligible for federal disaster assistance following the severe snowstorm earlier this month, federal and state disaster recovery officials announced today.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that federal disaster funds have been made available for Illinois communities hit by the recent snowstorm under an emergency declaration issued for the state by President Clinton today. FEMA Director James Lee Witt said the President took the action after reviewing the agency's analysis of a request for federal assistance made by Gov. Jim Edgar. The state has been dealing with the on-going effects of severe winter weather since January 1.
