SALEM, Ore. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized the use of federal funds to help Oregon fight the Redwood Highway Fire burning in Josephine County. Michael D. Brown, Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Emergency Preparedness and Response, said the state’s request for federal fire management assistance was approved at 10:25 p.m. EDT Wednesday, August 4, 2004, after it was confirmed that the fire was threatening over 180 residences in Cave Junction.
