SEATTLE, Wash. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized the use of federal funds to help Washington state fight the Beebe Fire burning east of Lake Chelan, in McNeil Canyon. Michael D. Brown, Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Emergency Preparedness and Response, said the state's request for federal fire management assistance was approved at 5:08 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004, after it was confirmed that the fire was threatening over 100 residences in three subdivisions east of Chelan, WA.
