Clinton, Miss. -- Residents and communities in Mississippi are recovering from severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that struck the state this spring. The strong partnership between the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency has helped many families and local governments start the recovery process.

CLINTON, Miss. -- Mississippi flood survivors are facing an important decision: How can I make sure I'm not flooded again? One of the most common methods is to elevate your home. "Elevation may be the best solution for flood survivors who want to stay in their current location," said Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Director Mike Womack. "If your home is structurally sound, elevation may be one of the most effective ways to protect your home, your family and your possessions."

CLINTON, Miss. -- Now is the best time to protect your home against future flooding say state and federal emergency management professionals. "Act now, while the impacts of the historic 2011 floods are still fresh in our minds," said Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Director, Mike Womack. "As you continue your recovery, consider ways to improve your flood safety."

Individuals & Household Program (IHP): Provides money and services to people in Presidentially declared disaster areas.

Housing Assistance (HA): Provides assistance for disaster-related housing needs.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
