The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has some valuable advice for people to protect their homes and business from future flood damage. Display boxes stocked with FEMA mitigation publications will be set up near the entrances to nine home improvement stores in eight counties throughout the Commonwealth. The information is free and provides some proven techniques to prevent and lessen damage from future floods and severe storms.

Approved funds help residents repair their damaged homes, replace uninsured personal property and find temporary housing following the disaster.

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Homeowners, renters and business owners in Floyd County are now eligible for federal assistance to help recover from the effects of the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that struck the Commonwealth from April 12 to May 20. Floyd joins 21 other Kentucky counties where residents who sustained damages should register with FEMA to start the federal disaster aid process.

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentucky residents affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and floods that struck the Commonwealth between April 12 and May 20 have less than one month to register for disaster assistance. FEMA Registration Deadline:July 18, 2011. Storm survivors in 21 designated Commonwealth counties must register with FEMA in order to obtain federal disaster grants and low-interest loans. Registration is the first step in that process and keeps open the possibility of a wide range of assistance.
