May 11, 2011 - News Release

WESTFIELD, MA. -- The Massachusetts and Federal Emergency Management Agencies (MEMA and FEMA) announced today that FEMA has awarded $1,050,102 in Public Assistance funds to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. These funds reimburse state agencies, local governments and private nonprofit organizations for costs associated with the January 11-12 severe winter storm and snowstorm. Additional funds will be obligated as FEMA continues to process applications.

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Federal disaster assistance has been designated for Hampden County to help local governments and eligible private nonprofit organizations recover costs accrued during the January 11-12, 2011 severe winter storm and snowstorm the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to Massachusetts and ordered federal aid to supplement the commonwealth and local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm and snowstorm during the period of January 11-12, 2011.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
