WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Volunteers, faith-based organizations, local, state, and federal officials continue to meet the ongoing needs of the survivors of this summer's severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding. Sixteen long-term recovery committees are active across the state, and more are being organized, according to the Iowa Disaster Human Resource Council (IDHRC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These local groups may help meet survivors' unmet needs beyond the legal capacity of federal resources after all other available assistance has been exhausted.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- A federal/state Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Boone County will open Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at 9 a.m. to assist individuals, households and businesses affected by Iowa’s summer storms and flooding. The DRC will be located at the Luther City Hall, 5 Luther St. Luther, IA  50152. The hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to Noon, on Saturday, until Nov. 9, 2010.

The DRC will be located at the Calhoun County Extension, 521 4th St., Rockwell City, IA  50579. The hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to Noon, on Saturday, until Nov. 2, 2010.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- A federal/state Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Shelby County will open Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at 9 a.m. to assist individuals, households and businesses affected by Iowa's summer storms and flooding. The DRC will be located at the Harlan Fire Station, 906 Cyclone Ave., Harlan, IA 51537-1327. The hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to Noon, on Saturday, until Oct. 27, 2010.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- If the recent severe storms and flooding left you entangled in a legal issue, free Disaster Legal Services may be able to help. Those affected by the storms and flooding who have limited income or who are unable to obtain legal counsel on their own may call for free legal services for disaster-related legal problems. To be eligible, disaster survivors need to live, work or own a business in one of the Iowa counties declared for Individual Assistance because of storms and flooding during June, July, and August.
