July 29, 2010 - News Release

Albany, N.Y. -- Bayville, located on the northernmost tip of Nassau County, escaped storm damage from the March nor’easter because of Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) projects.  These were undertaken 12 years ago when a storm drainage system, leaching pits and a retaining wall project were constructed.  Hazard mitigation grants, which are administered by New York State, fund projects designed to reduce the likelihood of damage from floods and severe weather.

July 14, 2010 - News Release

Albany, N.Y. -- Federal and state officials today announced that the incident period of the severe storms has been re-opened to cover the period from March 13 - March 31, 2010 and three additonal counties  -- Otsego, Schoharie, and Warren - have been added to the declaration.

Albany, N.Y.  -- This past March, Playland Amusement Park, a National Historic Landmark located in the City of Rye in Westchester County, was damaged by a Nor'easter that ripped through parts of New York State.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
