June 14, 2010 - News Release

CHARLESTON, W.V. -- The West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (WVDHSEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced three additional localities are designated eligible for disaster aid for the December 18–20, 2010, severe winter storm and snowstorm.  The added counties are Jefferson, Mercer and Randolph.

June 9, 2010 - News Release

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management announced today that FEMA has obligated $1,397,000 in Public Assistance (PA) funds to West Virginia to reimburse the State and local governments for costs and damage associated with the December 18-20 snowstorm. Additional funds will be obligated as FEMA continues to process Project Worksheets.

March 2, 2010 - News Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Craig Fugate today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for West Virginia to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm and snowstorm during the period of December 18-20, 2009.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
