ALBANY, N.Y. -- Federal disaster assistance to individuals is now available to residents of three New York counties affected by the August storms and floods in western New York. "We encourage residents to register with FEMA if you were affected by the disaster," said Federal Coordinating Officer Jaime E. Forero. "It's the first step on the road to recovery." Disaster assistance for eligible individuals may include:

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for New York and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms and flooding during the period of August 8-10, 2009.
