MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Survivors of the severe storms of May 6-8 in Autauga, Bullock, Elmore,   and Montgomery counties have until Aug. 17, 2009 to register for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Friday marks the halfway point in the 60-day registration period. Registrations cannot be accepted after the deadline.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- A Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) managed by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 16. The center is located at the Capitol Heights Community Center, 206 Federal Drive, Montgomery, AL 36107. It was established to assist survivors of the May 6-8 storms complete their applications for low-interest disaster loans from the SBA.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Teams of specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will offer techniques to lessen the impact of disaster-related property damages at locations in Autauga and Montgomery counties through July 16. Locations and hours are as follows: Autauga County: Lowe's, 2304 Cobb Ford Road, Prattville, AL 36107; hours:  8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through July 15; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 16.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is getting assistance to survivors of the May 6-8 storms at the rate of more than $1 million per week, the agency said today. By the morning of July 8, $4,379,375 had been disbursed to assist the recovery efforts of Alabama residents in Autauga, Bullock, Elmore, and Montgomery counties. Federal disaster assistance became available to individuals and households less than four weeks ago, on June 19.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has to date distributed more than $4.1 million in housing assistance funds to help central Alabama residents affected by the severe storms and flooding of May 6-8. Officials from the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) and FEMA caution recipients to use their funds wisely and well.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Some Alabama residents who have applied for disaster assistance may have received a letter saying their application is denied. Don't be alarmed. Some denial letters are sent to applicants who simply need to supply additional information, so the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) can continue to process their applications.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Disaster Recovery Centers in Bullock, Elmore, and Montgomery counties will close Thursday, July 2. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) said the DRCs were opened to serve those affected by the May 6 - 8 storms and flooding. After a DRC closes, help remains available through FEMA's toll-free Helpline, 800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY) 800-462-7585. Helpline hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily until further notice.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) will open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Elmore County at noon Sunday to help people affected by the May 6-8 storms and flooding. The DRC will be at the Millbrook Civic Center at 3168 Park Circle in Millbrook, AL, 36054. The hours of operation are Sunday, June 28, noon to 6 p.m. and beginning Monday, June 29, 8 a. m. to 6 p.m. through July 2.
