INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Eight days after President Obama issued a major disaster declaration for Indiana, nearly $734,000 in disaster assistance grants have been approved. Federal and state recovery officials announced that today a total of 464 residents have applied for disaster assistance in the 13 designated Indiana counties. The following is an update of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) recovery activities as of close of business Thursday, April 30.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Two mobile Disaster Recovery Centers will open Thursday to serve residents and business owners who sustained losses or damage as a result of the severe storms and flooding March 8 - 14, according to state and federal disaster officials. The centers will be in Kosciusko and Lake counties. The locations are: Kosciusko CountyOld Church Annex202 W. Main St.Warsaw, Ind. Lake CountyRoss Township Fire Dept.26 W. 73rd Ave.Merrillville, Ind.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for the State of Indiana.  The assistance will supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding during the period of March 8-14, 2009.
