INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- More than $1.6 million in federal Public Assistance funds has been obligated for state and local governments, and certain private nonprofit organizations, for costs resulting from the severe winter storms in late January, according to the Indiana Dept. of Homeland Security (IDHS) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). To date, $1,609,734 has been obligated to the state and 10 counties for Public Assistance projects in Indiana.

Public Assistance (PA) funds for reimbursement or restoration are available in 15 southern Hoosier counties as part of a presidential disaster declaration following a severe winter storm that struck the state during the period of January 26-28, 2009.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for the state of Indiana to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm during the period of January 26-28, 2009.
