NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Help is just one free phone call away for Arkansans with serious unmet needs as a result of the disastrous ice storm that struck last  month. A call to this easy-to-remember number-2-1-1-can link anyone who needs help with people who are able to provide help. Arkansas 2-1-1 is also the number to call to find volunteer opportunities and organizations that need donations.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) announced today that Pope County is now eligible for disaster Public Assistance to help with recovery from the severe winter storms of Jan. 26-30. This brings the total number of designated counties to 30. Federal Coordinating Officer Mike Moore said the assistance was approved following a review of damage reports gathered by federal and state disaster recovery specialists.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Watch out for people who try to scam you, warn the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). "Be alert to anyone who claims to be a FEMA representative and is seeking or offering services but cannot produce a FEMA identification (ID) badge," says Federal Coordinating Officer Mike Moore. "Anyone associated with FEMA always has a picture ID, and residents should feel free to ask to see it."

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-- Across the northern half of Arkansas, the storm that struck the last week of January weighed down electrical lines with a thick coat of ice. The damage left more than 315,000 electrical customers without power; thanks to the feverish work of repair crews, that number has now declined to fewer than 13,500.

North Little Rock, Ark. -- Many Arkansans are faced now with cleaning up debris from the recent severe winter storms. State and federal specialists have some suggestions that may help. Municipal, county, state, and federal agencies are not authorized to remove debris from private property except in situations where the debris is deemed to pose an extraordinary threat to human health and safety.
