SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today, changes to the operating hours of the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) and Helpline, during the Holidays. Starting on Monday, December 22, DRCs hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday. On Wednesday December 24, the DRCs will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The DRCs will remain closed on December 25th and 26th.

SAN JUAN, PR -- The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today, that the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will close at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2008. Operating hours that day will be from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. DRCs will resume their regular operations on Saturday, December 20, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Agency (PREMA), other government agencies and non-profit organizations are working on an educational project that may be used as an emergency preparedness tool for children in the schools of the Island.

Officials of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) expect that some of those choices will include proven techniques that can help reduce or prevent future storm damages.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Recovery officials remind individuals living or working in the municipalities of Naguabo and Las Piedras, that the deadline to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is Thursday, December 11, 2008. Individuals may be eligible if they lost wages as a result of the September 21 ? October 3, 2008 flooding. DUA is designed to help individuals who live or work in a declared municipality who may have lost income as a result of the disaster, including farmers, self-employed workers or others who are normally ineligible for unemployment benefits.

SAN JUAN, PR -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency's toll-free registration helpline will change its operations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, starting on Monday, December 8, 2008.  Puerto Rico residents who were affected by the September 21 - October 3 severe storms and flooding are encouraged to register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) - use option 2 for Spanish (TTY 800-462-7585) - or by going online at www.FEMA.gov.
