SAN JUAN, PR -- Federal and Commonwealth officials urge renters, homeowners and business owners who applied for assistance, but who have not yet received correspondence from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to verify that their mail is not being held at the local Post Office.

SAN JUAN, PR -- The Long Term Recovery Committees held today in Ponce, their first General Conference where representatives of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), local and Commonwealth governments, the private sector, and community and faith based groups shared emergency preparedness information, website tools, available resources, and current initiatives to effectively respond during emergency operations.

San Juan, Puerto Rico -- The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster recovery officials announced today, that the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in the municipalities of Cabo Rojo, Humacao, Patillas and Yabucoa will cease operations on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. The DRCs have served residents and businesses which were affected by the severe storms and flooding from September 21 to October 3, 2008 and are located at:

Individuals & Household Program (IHP): Provides money and services to people in Presidentially declared disaster areas.

Housing Assistance (HA): Provides assistance for disaster-related housing needs.

Other Needs Assistance (ONA): Provides assistance for other disaster-related needs, such as furnishings, transportation, and medical.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
