RUIDOSO, NM ? After the July flooding that occurred in Lincoln and Otero counties, many homeowners and businesses learned too late that their insurance did not cover flood damages.? Time and time again, far too many individuals shoulder these burdens without the financial cushion of flood insurance. In some instances, people have been told they cannot buy flood insurance because of where they live, or because they've flooded before.
Ruidoso, NM. -- All counties throughout the State of New Mexico may now be eligible to apply for assistance under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). "The major disaster declaration initially included Public Assistance for Lincoln and Otero Counties and designated Lincoln eligible for Hazard Mitigation. Now the declaration has been amended to include all counties in the State for the Hazard Mitigation Program," said Nancy Casper, Federal Coordinating Officer.
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for New Mexico to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms and flooding beginning on July 26, 2008, and continuing.

Public Assistance - Dollars ApprovedPublic Assistance Definitions
Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
