SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- More than $15.4 million in federal disaster assistance grants and loans has been approved so far by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for Illinois residents who suffered damages and losses during the severe storms and flooding June 1 through July 22. To date, 3,303 homeowners and renters from the 18 designated counties have applied for disaster assistance.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The deadline for Illinois residents affected by the June 1 to July 22 severe storms and floods to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency has passed. There may, however, be a few disaster victims who were not able to apply for federal assistance at no fault of their own. If you call FEMA to apply for federal assistance you will be asked to write a letter explaining why you could not register within the 60-day timeframe. The letter must contain the following information:

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The deadline for Illinois residents affected by the severe storms and flooding from June 1 to June 22 to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency is Monday, August 25. In addition, disaster loan applications from the U.S. Small Business Administration for disaster-related losses of real and personal property need to be completed and postmarked by the August 25.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Ill. has been awarded $863,745 in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for temporary classrooms and office space as a result of damage caused by the June 1 to July 22 severe storms and flooding. Flood damage to the building was severe enough that it was considered a health and safety risk for the students and faculty and it can not be occupied until extensive repairs are made. FEMA has been working with Martinsville School officials since early August and approved the grant Thursday, August 21.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Time is running out for Illinois residents who sustained damage from the severe storms and flooding from June 1 through July 22. The deadline to register for disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency is Monday, August 25. Residents in 18 counties designated for federal aid should call the Federal Emergency Management Agency at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Applicants who are speech- or hearing-impaired and have TTY equipment should call 1-800-462-7585. You may also register online at www.fema.gov.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency has set-up a housing assistance helpline to assist Illinois applicants who are having difficulty finding a place to live following the June 1 to July 22 severe storms and flooding.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Illinois residents and business owners have less than one week to apply for federal disaster assistance. Monday, August 25 is the last day to register for federal disaster assistance. Eighteen counties are designated for individual assistance allowing those residents to apply for federal aid. They are Adams, Calhoun, Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Hancock, Henderson, Jasper, Jersey, Lake, Lawrence, Mercer, Rock Island, Whiteside and Winnebago.
