LINCOLN, Neb. -- Most Nebraskans who registered for disaster assistance in the aftermath of recent storms and tornadoes are finding they are given a U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan application. Officials of the SBA and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said the SBA form must be returned before the full range of federal assistance programs can be considered.

Faith-based groups like American Baptist Churches of Nebraska and Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief move volunteers in as soon as they can begin relief and recovery operations. Their work cannot be too highly praised. It has been a godsend to individuals suffering from the effects of disasters.

WASHINGTON ? The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for Nebraska to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding during the period of April 23-26, 2008.
