LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- With spring around the corner, every family should be prepared to face another season of destructive storms and flooding. Every home should have a Disaster Supply Kit that includes a weather radio. The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) urge all Indiana residents to act now to assemble their family's emergency supplies before the start of the spring storm season.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Having met the needs of the community, the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Jasper County will be closing on Thursday, March 6 at 6 p.m. The DRC will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the closure.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Indiana residents and business owners living in the 21 counties included in the recent presidential disaster declaration have only one more month to register for federal disaster assistance. March 31, 2008 is the last day applications will be accepted by FEMA for Individual Assistance. Loan applications for homeowners, renters, and businesses of any size to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for disaster-related losses to real and personal property also must be submitted by that date.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Mitigation specialists offering building tips to make homes more resistant to storms and flooding will be available in Cass, Fulton, Marshall, White, Elkhart and Tippecanoe counties from Feb. 29- Mar. 16. The mitigation teams are sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in cooperation with local businesses and community sponsored Home and Garden shows.
