SALEM, Ore. -- More than $13 million in disaster assistance is now approved to help Oregonians recover from the December 2007 storms, according to officials with Oregon Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The application period for Oregon businesses, families and individuals with damages from the severe storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides Dec. 1-17, 2007, in the disaster-declared counties of Clatsop, Columbia, Polk, Tillamook, Washington and Yamhill, closed on Thursday, Feb. 7.

SALEM, Ore. -- Tomorrow, Thursday, February 7, 2008, is the final day for individuals who were impacted by the severe storms, mudslides, landslides and flooding of December 1-17, 2007 to register for disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). February 7 is also the deadline for tribal governments and communities to file Requests for Public Assistance to participate in FEMA's Public Assistance Grant Program.

Vernonia residents can view new draft flood maps today at Vernonia City Hall. The new maps are the result of an Army Corps of Engineers study, commissioned by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) after the December 2007 storms and flooding in the city. ?After December we realized that the flooded areas in Vernonia did not correspond with the existing floodplain maps,? said Glen R. Sachtleben, federal coordinating officer of FEMA.

SALEM, Ore. -- A Town Hall Meeting in Vernonia last Thursday about new flood maps brought many questions from residents. In response, The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Oregon Emergency Management (OEM) have decided to bring both FEMA flood insurance specialists and flood map specialists to the Vernonia Disaster Recovery Center to be available to residents to further clarify insurance, the mapping process and its impact.
