MERRILLVILLE, Ind. -- More than $500,000 in federal loans has been approved for individuals and families in Lake County who were affected by the August storms and flooding, but officials with the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) believe many qualified residents have not yet registered or have not yet returned their SBA loan application.

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. -- Officials with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) remind residents affected by the August 15 - 27 storms and flooding that the deadline to register for disaster assistance is January 29. Disaster assistance may include grants to help pay for home repair, temporary housing, uninsurable items and other serious disaster-related needs such as unemployment. Persons that became unemployed as a result of the August storms and flooding have until January 4 to register for unemployment assistance.

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. -- Federal and state disaster officials remind Lake County residents that FEMA representatives will be available at U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Centers (DLOCs) beginning Wednesday, Dec. 26. The FEMA representatives will assist anyone affected by the August 15-27 severe storms and flooding. They can also answer questions about an applicant’s existing registration for disaster assistance.
