BISMARCK, N.D. -- More than $1.7 million in state and federal disaster assistance has been approved for Grand Forks county residents who were impacted by the Aug. 26 and 27 storms that spawned a deadly tornado in Northwood, disaster recovery officials have announced. State and federal disaster assistance comes in addition to the estimated $30 million of insured losses.

BISMARCK, N.D. -- The state/federal Disaster Recovery Center in Northwood that has been serving Grand Forks County residents impacted by the August 26-27 severe storms will be closing this Friday at 7 p.m., disaster recovery officials have announced. The center, which opened Sept. 15 at the Northwood Community Center, has been operating as a central location for many state and federal disaster recovery resources, providing an opportunity for those impacted by the disaster to talk face-to-face with recovery specialists.

BISMARCK, N.D. -- Individuals whose jobs were impacted by the severe storms and tornadoes Aug. 26 and 27 in Grand Forks County have just two weeks left to apply for disaster  unemployment assistance (DUA), say state and federal recovery officials. To apply for disaster unemployment assistance, call Job Service North Dakota 1-701-328-3352.  Deadline to apply is Oct. 15, 2007.  DUA claims filed after Oct. 15, 2007 will be considered untimely and benefits denied, unless the individual provides good cause for filing after that date.

Bismarck, N.D. -- Federal disaster help for North Dakotans impacted by the recent severe weather in Grand Forks County, including the City of Northwood, already is underway, state and federal recovery officials said Friday. The new state and federal assistance for homeowners, renters, business owners and workers in Grand Forks County became available Thursday night when President Bush authorized the extra help for storm-related losses August 26 and 27 after severe weather, including an EF-4 tornado hit parts of the county and heavily impacted Northwood.
