NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Free publications from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) about how to protect yourself and your property from flooding are a toll-free phone call or mouse-click away. FEMA publications provide helpful information about what to do before, during and after a flood in order to decrease the toll such disasters take on lives and property.

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- State and federal officials have approved more than $7.2 million in disaster grants and low-interest loans for homeowners, renters and business owners who suffered damages during the August 8 severe storm and flooding. The deadline to register is November 16, 2007. The following is a summary of activities as of close of business on November 8, 2007:

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The damage caused by flooding this past August 8 resulted in Brooklyn and Queens being designated official disaster areas. Are you prepared for the possibility of a flood coming into your home or business? With some relatively simple steps, you can protect your property and decrease the potential for destruction and expense. Making your building more resistant to flood damage, technically called mitigation, can help you withstand future flooding events. And flood insurance can help you recover after a flood.

Financial Assistance

Individual Assistance - Dollars Approved

Individuals & Household Program (IHP): Provides money and services to people in Presidentially declared disaster areas.

Housing Assistance (HA): Provides assistance for disaster-related housing needs.

Other Needs Assistance (ONA): Provides assistance for other disaster-related needs, such as furnishings, transportation, and medical.
